Disney is one of the most famous hot spots for runners to take part in 5ks throughout the year. Millions of people sign up to do themed runs and usually they are a fun time for everyone. Today however we have some sad news as a runner in Disney World’s 5k event for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend.
The event continues through Sunday and 15,000 runners are expected to participate. A statement from Andrea Finger, a spokeswoman for Walt Disney World Resort expressed their deep regret for the loss of a participant.
“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the runner’s family and loved ones throughout this difficult time.”
The runner has not been identified but what we do know is that they were running in a 3.1 mile race for ages 5 and up. It’s unclear if the runner was training for this event or if they just decided to go, or what kind of health they were in before they started out. Our thoughts go out to their family and friends at this time.
