Shooting for the new Candyman movie from Jordon Peele should begin in Chicago, Illinois on August 20 and run through September 20. The new movie is said to be a “spiritual sequel” to the original 1992 film. Peele and his MonkeyPaw partner Win Rosenfield are writing and producing the new film. Nia DaCosta is directing.

The plot of the new film revolves around an artist named Anthony. Strange killings start to happen when Anthony looks into the urban legend of the Candyman. Lakeith Stanfield has reportedly been cast as Anthony, with Teyonah Parris appearing as his girlfriend. The new Candyman will be played by Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Original Candyman Tony Todd is also in talks to appear in the film, although his role is unknown. Todd told Cinemablend:

Out of the blue, I got a phone call from Jordan Peele. We’re still waiting for the contract, but the way he explained it to me was that it’s gonna be applause-worthy moments. That’s his words. No matter what happens with that, it’s gonna just put renewed attention on the original.

Candyman is scheduled for release on June 12, 2020.

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
