Before the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters in theaters, a sequel was already in the works. While King of the Monsters debuted at number 1 on its opening weekend, beating Disney’s Alladin and the newly released Elton John biopic Rocketman, its box office lagged behind those of previous MonsterVerse films: $93 million for Godzilla (2014) and $61 million for Kong: Skull Island (2017)
But Godzilla vs Kong, the matchup between the MonsterVerse stars, is definitely coming regardless of the performance of King of the Monsters. In fact, principal photography on the movie has already been completed in Australia. Now a poster for the movie has debuted at the Licensing Expo. The poster shows Godzilla and King Kong ready to do battle. It also seems that Kong has done some growing since his appearance in Kong: Skull Island. But perhaps the most significant part of the poster is the tagline “One will fall”, which seems to imply that this might be the last movie for one of the two giants.
Godzilla vs Kong will be released on March 13, 2020.
