More zombies will be shambling our way soon!

A third TV series set in the Walking Dead universe will be coming to AMC in 2020. The as yet untitled series has a 10-episode first season order. AMC made the announcement at a press conference in New York on April 8. The Walking Dead, based on Robert Kirkman’s Image Comics series, is entering its 10th season and the first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, is entering its 5th.

Details of the new series are sparse, although it will feature two young female protagonists and “focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.” The series will film in Virginia. Matt Negrete, a long-time writer on The Walking Dead, will be the showrunner for the new series. Scott M. Gimple, co-creator and producer of the new series, had this to say:

“Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a Decade of the Dead on TV and over 15 years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic. Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history, I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world.”

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
