Frozen 2 Trailer Not What We Expected

If you have been affected at all by a polar vortex you are probably sick of all things winter and ready for spring. This anti-winter attitude is echoed in the opening sequence of the Frozen 2 trailer.

The teaser opens with a grim-faced Elsa staring out at a dark and stormy sea. We then see her get determined and run out into the surging waves.  Why? Where is she going? We don’t know. We don’t even know if she succeeds in whatever she is trying. The trailer shifts to an anxious-looking Anna looking out at something on her balcony, and then later Anna also braves the pounding surf.

There are brief shots of a determined Kristoff riding Sven as they race along with a herd of other reindeer, Elsa protecting Olaf from…something. Fire maybe? There’s a lot of pink stuff floating around and considering it is Feb 13 all I can think of is Valentine’s Day, although Elsa and Olaf don’t look too happy.

There are some panoramic shots of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Sven staring out at a fall landscape, so maybe they have gotten wherever they were going. A leaf floats across in front of the Frozen II logo, then we go back to our characters walking down a trail in the woods. But wait! Suddenly Anna grabs Kristoff’s sword and swings at something coming up behind them…and that’s it.

Well, this wasn’t the trailer I was expecting. No pretty songs or cute dance sequences. However, both the darker ocean scenes and the later autumn forest look awesome. It certainly seems like the movie might have a lot of action to keep you on the edge of your seat!

I’d say the teaser definitely did its job…I want to see more!

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
