“One Battle After Another” is a masterpiece, the true movie moment of our time and one of the most important films to see as it arrives at the precise time it needs to. This timeless yet timely tale taps the raw nerve exposed in American politics and captures the hopelessness of fighting against institutions of power and the hopefulness of the neccesity of generational revolution.

“Superman” is overly ambitious, overstuffed, and quite messy most of the time. But it’s also consistently entertaining, delivering the kind of hopeful hero we’ve long been waiting to see on the big screen. It’s bursting with hope and humanity, and I can’t think of anything we need more of in the world right now than that.
“Sinners” is bold and beautiful and kind of all over the place, but whatever misgvings you may have about the narrative construction take a back seat to all of the film’s excellence. And “Sinners” is so goddamn entertaining it doesn’t even matter if some things don’t make sense.
The Day the Earth Blew Up” is classic Looney Tunes, complete with gorgeous 2-D animation and a nostalgic longing without pandering or removing the heart and soul from its origins.
“Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” may be a middling return to middle earth, but it is better than most and better than most would expect, standing tall above its previous counter parts and only below the original trilogy.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” may be lost at sea, but if the voyage itself doesn’t make sense and we’re happy to put this all behind us and start fresh, it is at least having fun as it stares its own death in the face.
“Blue Beetle” is a ton of fun, and hits all the right beats of good time at the movies even if those beats are familiar to most.
