Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

Maybe you’re asking yourself what, exactly, is The Betty White Challenge? No, it has nothing to do with hot dogs, vodka with lemon, or eating a Snickers. It doesn’t even have anything to do with a retirement community in Florida. The Betty White Challenge is about helping animals, a life-long passion of the First Lady of American Television. Betty White, just shy of her 100th birthday, passed away on December 31st, 2021. It was like one last attempt of that year to really, really suck. But, the near universal outcry of sadness about her loss is being used for a…

Back in October of 2020, news came that Simon Kinberg was working on a “Battlestar Galactica” project for Universal. Not just ‘working’ on it, either. Kinberg, who’s credits include things like “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” and that disasterous “Fan4stic,” was writing it. Much as we hoped the project was dead (Sam Esmail’s rebooted tv series which appears to be), Kinberg’s film is very much still in process. He spoke recently with Collider, and gave an update on the project no one really wants. When asked if his film project would tie in directly to Ronald D. Moore’s incredible reimagining of the…

While Groundhog Day is still a month away, sure feels like we’re living Phil’s never-ending day. In a repeat of 2021, theatrical movie dates are being shifted again. Sony Pictures has pushed the Jared Leto starring Spider-Man adjacent film “Morbius” back. It’ll now bow on April 1st, 2022. Heck, if they wait til July 2022, it’ll be a full two-year delay from the proposed initial release date. Better get prepared for more of the same, and possibly longer delays in the coming weeks as Covid cases continue to rise. Again.

Disney+’s “The Book of Boba Fett” is causing lots of discourse on the internet. Some good, some bad, some wistful. Mostly though, the series is reigniting the debate about just how much of a badass Boba Fett is, and how much of that reputation is earned. That’s not what we’re here to chat about today. Instead, let’s imagine an episode of the series with flashbacks to Fett’s time at Jabba’s palace. Think…right around the time he delivers one Captain Solo frozen in carbonite. Also, who might we see during such an episode? Let’s pretend for a minute that someone on…

Make all the John Cena jokes you want, but sure seems like the “Peacemaker” spinoff series is gonna be….something. Writer/directer James Gunn shared some info for the upcoming HBO Max show that we thought you’d want to know. As he often does, Gunn was answering some fan questions on Twitter. This one in particular posed the notion that maybe “The Suicide Squad” offshoot series would have post-credits scenes. Turns out, every single episode will! Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Danielle Brooks (“Orange is the New Black”), Freddie Stroma (“Bridgerton”), Christopher Heyerdahl, Chukwudi Iwuji, Nhut Le, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Alison Araya,…

We want to start by saying this is an absolutely TERRIBLE idea. One of those why in the world would anyone even ATTEMPT such a stupid thing kind of idea. So, in the vein of our friends from “MythBusters,” don’t try this at home. Twitter user KLobstar decided on January 1st, 2022 that sticking a McDonald’s Big Mac in an air fryer for 120 minutes was a GREAT IDEA. We do need to point out this isn’t Lobstar’s first encounter with putting some form of precooked food in an air fryer. Last year, he did the same thing with a…

It’s officially the 2nd day of an all new year. It’s a Sunday, and maybe you’re looking for something to occupy your household. In one of those strange deep dives on YouTube to play my partner some iconic 90s theme songs, I came across this. From Tacoz Guy, a well put together game that gives you 20 seconds to guess the animated series theme song before the answer is displayed. Sure, the first one is super easy, but they do get harder. Enjoy!

We’ve been talking a lot in the last few weeks about HBO Max’s “Harry Potter” 20th reunion special. “Return to Hogwarts” hit the streaming service on January 1st, and it’s absolutely worth watching. Especially if you’re more than a passing fan of the series. The one thing we DO want to point out though is despite reports to the contrary (which we ourselves ran, among pretty much every other outlet out there), problematic author JK Rowling does appear. True, it’s in interview segments dated 2019, but she is most assuredly there. It is interesting that Rowling’s segments are the only…
