Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

We were barely a week into 2022 when America’s dad, Bob Saget, passed away. Yet another loss that felt…untenable. Somehow impossible, and utterly unfair. Especially on the heels of America’s sweetheart Betty White departing, just shy of her 100th birthday. Every comedian, actor, and contemporary of Saget’s that has offered a story or memory of the comedian has shared a similar thread- his humor, his care, and his warmth. Social media has been alight with stories from “Full House” co-stars, and those who’d worked with Saget over the years. Like this post from Ben Stiller. One such story making the…

NBC’s Peacock streaming service released the full-length trailer for their upcoming reimagined take on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Coming at the premise from a slightly more serious angle than the original Will Smith sitcom, “Bel-Air” looks pretty interesting so far. Staring Jabari Banks as Will, the cast also includes Cassandra Freeman as Aunt Viv/Vivian Banks, Olly Sholotan as Carlton Banks (no word on if he’ll dance), Coco Jones as Hilary Banks, Akira Akbar as Ashley Banks, Jimmy Akingbola as Banks’ family butler Geoffrey, Jordan L. Jones as DJ “Jazz” Jeff, and Simone Joy Jones as Lisa. Peacock describes “Bel-Air”: “Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” that…

Awards season is well and truly upon us now. Nominations for the Oscars are coming next month, and the less said about the Golden Globes last night the better. One film is surprisingly being touted for a number of categories, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” A for your consideration campaign was launched for the Tom Holland-starring film. This consists of ads across social media, billboards, print ads, and more. But one prestigious awards ceremony says the film simply isn’t eligible for consideration. The BAFTAs, British Academy Film Awards, says that due to the film NOT being…

I have never felt so old as I do right now. Penelope Spheeris’s iconic and important “Saturday Night Live” skit-inspired “Wayne’s World” turns freaking 30 this year. Thats…not ok. But it remains unashamedly one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m not sure why, but it apparently came into my life at just the right time to become a part of my language and fandom. Starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as their “SNL” sketch characters Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, “Wayne’s World” is one of those 90s films that makes zero sense and ALL the sense at the…
