In 1996, the first “Tomb Raider” video game hit the shelves for PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn consoles. This jump-started a decades-long, multi-platform phenomenon consisting of 19 more games, movies, comics, and now an animated series. Netflix announced that its upcoming animated series “Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft,” will be releasing LATER THIS YEAR! “The Legend Of Lara Croft” will pick up after the story arch in the “Survivor” trilogy of games (“Tomb Raider,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”). Coiced by Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter,” “Mission: Impossible”), British archaeologist Lara Croft must…

We’re back with another edition of Urban Legend: Fact or Fiction. In this chapter, we are going to look at the tale of the body in the barrel. You may want to skip the wine and rum until you read this one. The Story Many years ago a married couple bought an older home. While the former owner did leave a lot of their junk behind, the price was right, so they jumped on the opportunity. Figuring they might be able to sell what they didn’t want or need. After cleaning for a few days, the pair worked their way…
It’s hard to look at the seemingly endless amounts of “Minecraft” merchandise and think; “Hmm, something is missing.” Well Netflix did, and the streamer is teaming up with Mojang Studios to adapt the pixelated video game into an animated series. Let the block party begin! “Minecraft” recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a 15 day long celebration, that concluded with announcing the series. The upcoming series will feature an original story with new characters, showing the world of “Minecraft” in a new light. This CG-animated show is already in development with WildBrain. The same studio behind Netflix’s “Sonic Prime,” “Ninjago: Dragons…
Is there any sci-fi fan who hasn’t had the age-old debate over whether “Alien” or “Aliens” is better? For the newest addition to the franchise, “Alien: Romulus,” filmmaker Fede Álvarez (“Evil Dead” 2013) had to decide which path to take. Should he go with a more straight-up haunted-house horror movie plot like Ridley Scott’s original film? Or should he pick an action-packed war film like James Cameron brought to the table with the sequel? Well, Álvarez picked a secret third option by somehow blending the two. How?! “To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question,”…
In 2006, Zack Snyder co-wrote and directed the movie “300” based on a graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The novel and film are loosely based on historical events, and the 1962 film “The 300 Spartans.” Turns out, a prequel series is currently in early development at Warner Bros. Television, with Snyder involved. The show being a prequel is about all we know about the plot at this time. Currently, there isn’t a writer or platform attached to the project. So when we say early development, we *MEAN* EARLY development. The film tells the story…
In 1988, Tim Burton unleashed the ghost with the most onto the world with “Beetlejuice.” Almost 36 years later, he plans to do it again with the long-gestating sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Unlike many sequels done long after the fact, this project has most of the original cast back including Michael Keaton as the titular ghoul and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. Both Keaton and Ryder have been gushing about their experience working on the film. Despite Keaton finding jumping back into the black and white striped suit a bit surreal at first. “There’s been so much merchandising of it, I…
Since early last year, Max has been hard at work on the “IT” prequel series, “Welcome To Derry” (working title). However, the project has remained secretive about who would play the omnipresent terror known as IT/Pennywise. It’s been confirmed that Bill Skarsgård (“The Crow”) will be reprising his role from the New Line films, to terrorize the children of Maine once more. “Welcome To Derry,” will serve as a prequel to the two films based on the novel “IT” by horror legend Stephen King. Series co-developer Andy Muschietti will direct four episodes of the nine-part series. The teleplay for the…
Over Memorial Day weekend, the Cabot Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts held a special screening of the 1975 classic “Jaws.” What made the screening so special was Richard Dreyfuss, who played Hooper in the film, would be doing a Q&A. Things didn’t go as planned, as the highly decorated actor said some things during the appearance that prompted several people to walk out, and the Cabot Theater to issue an apology. According to members of the audience, the “Mr. Holland’s Opus” star went on a “transphobic, homophobic [and] misogynistic” rant. He badly touched on the #MeToo movement, “Nuts” co-star Barbara Streisand…
A clip of a rather strange court proceeding is going viral this week. Michigan resident Corey Harris attended a court hearing via Zoom regarding his suspended driver’s license. The issue? He was clearly driving a car on the call! The clip originates from a live-streamed court session from May 15th. The video shows an assistant public defender letting Judge J Cedric Simpson, know that her client “should be present via Zoom.” Soon after, Harris pops up and you can clearly see the interior of his car and a seatbelt across his chest. While the visual evidence is damning, the shocked…
“If you build it, they will come,” “Field of Dreams.” The video game “Fallout 76″ has amassed 20 million downloads and plays as of May 29th. This sudden spike in players is mostly due to Prime Video’s “Fallout” tv series adaptation of the Bethesda Game Studios title. Viewers Becoming New Players The video game first launched in October 2018, and as of December 2023, it had 17 million players. On April 10th of this year, Amazon Prime Video released its series adaptation directed by Jonathan Nolan to much fanfare. The show pulled in 65 million viewers in its first 16…
