Netflix and A24’s anthology show “Beef” had an outstanding first season, winning eight of the thirteen Emmys it was nominated for. For season two, the companies are focusing on bringing more A-list talent to the series.  Emmy nominee Oscar Isaac (“Scenes From a Marriage”) and three-time Oscar Nominee Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”) are currently in negotiations to star in season 2. Hulu recently released Andrew McCarthy‘s documentary “Brats” about the performers behind the iconic Brat Pack movies of the 1980s. While his documentary wasn’t all sunshine and roses, it did have some of the group reconnect after all this time.  Sony Pictures is reportedly exploring the possibility of a ‘new’ version of 1985’s film “St. Elmo’s Fire.”  The project would rest upon original cast members McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham willingness to return. Fast food chain McDonald’s is bringing a bit of Hong Kong to Canada. Since 2005, Hong Kong has had McShaker Fries, which are McDonald’s classic french fries with a special seasoning packet. The political influences behind Amazon Prime Video’s series “The Boys” is becoming a touchier subject among some fans with each passing season. With the series is starting up it’s fourth season, showrunner Eric Kripke did an interview where he discussed some of his real-world inspirations. Get ready to turn that frown upside down. Writer/director Parker Finn‘s film “Smile” was the surprise horror hit of 2022. Paramount Pictures just released the first terrifying teaser trailer for his follow-up film, “Smile 2.” Finn will once again be writing and directing the upcoming feature. Kyle Gallner will reprise his role as Joel. Amazon MGM Studios is adapting author Andy Weir’s novel “Project Hail Mary” into a feature film. “Die Hart”’s Milana Vayntrub will be joining the cast alongside Ryan Gosling (“The Fall Guy”) and Oscar Nominee Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall“). “Project Hail Mary” tells the story of a middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling). Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), a labor union representing over 51,000 professional live theater actors/stage managers, has ceased issuing contracts for work on productions in development. This massive decision is due to stalled negotiations between the AEA and the Broadway League over contracts. In January, AEA started contract negotiations with the Broadway League. Unfortunately, the organizations could not agree and the contract expired on February 11th. “We never wanted it to come to this,” Stephen Bogardus, Equity Negotiating Team Chair, said in a statement. “But the wage package put across the table by The Broadway League was just plain unacceptable.
