Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies.

The “Street Fighter” franchise is a fighting game institution as well as a pop culture one. You don’t have to be a fighting aficionado to know who Ryu, Chun Li or Guile are. Back in 2023, a new film entry was announced, and we were cautiously optimistic. Things were quiet until June of 2024 when the original directors exited the project. Then more silence. Cut to February of 2025, and news of a replacement director hit. A new director wasn’t really alarming for the status of the project, but keeping the same early 2026 release date did.Which doesn’t matter now,…

We’ve reported on a number of bankruptcies here at Nerdbot. Most recently we discussed how film production studio, Village Roadshow was going under. In that article we talked about how the company potentially had a buyer due to the assets the company has in its film library. That’s not a big deal to you or me when film rights get sold, it’s just an entertainment asset. What happens though when a company’s assets include your genetic data and they go bankrupt? That’s the question that should be on the minds of anyone who submitted their saliva sample to 23andMe. Of…

As much as the character of Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the “Friday the 13th” film series, true fans (and people who remember the opening sequence to “Scream”) will note he’s not the original killer. Memorably, the first film in the franchise reveals the murderer of the teenage camp counselors was actually Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. Originally portrayed by Betsy Palmer, her character may have been eclipsed by her son in the franchise, but there’s no denying the intensity of Palmer’s performance. When a prequel series, “Camp Crystal Lake” was announced, the obvious question would be, who would take up…

In December of 2023, one of the most famous bands in Rock and Roll history decided they were going to put an end to their touring days. The band was KISS, and the idea of them actually retiring was not something that anybody took extremely seriously. As much as KISS has done for rock with a number of anthemic songs and albums, there’s no denying how much effort was put into the money-making machine that the band was and is. Retire? When there’s money to be made? Hardly. And sure enough, they’re performing more concerts this November. The band seems to…

If science has taught us anything, it’s that people will do stupid things because they see other people doing it or because they think it will make them popular. Social media has not helped these issues become any less prevailing in human culture. It’s why we see things like planking, gender reveal parties that cause wildfires and deaths, and people falling off of milk crates. Oh, and remember the Tide Pod thing? The trend that showed us people will eat anything? Well, turns out society never learned its lesson, and now people are eating packing peanuts. Which can be toxic.…

It’s with a heavyweight heart that we report the passing of legendary boxer, George Foreman. There are few boxing personalities that have transcended the sport itself. Obviously, you have the incredible Muhammad Ali, “Kid Dynamite” Mike Tyson, and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but Foreman was also in that upper echelon of transcendent figures. He was a powerhouse in the ring just as much as he was outside of it in the world of popular culture. If you didn’t follow boxing at all, then you probably knew George Foreman from the famous grill that his name was attached to. That two-sided, slanted,…

Warner Bros. Discovery decided to take some of its upcoming film slate and shelve completed movies for the sake of a tax write-off. “Batgirl” was amongst the cancelled completed films, but it wasn’t the only one. Perhaps the most interesting of those shelved projects was “Coyote Vs. Acme.” It had the potential to go somewhere, and maybe it will actually have that chance.  “Coyote Vs. Acme” is an ingeniously simple premise. Anyone who’s watched a Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon knows that Wile E. gets all of his contraptions from the company, Acme. And while sometimes it’s the…

Say what you will about the overall quality of Adam Sandler’s filmography, but no one can deny the force that he was in the mid to late ’90s. While some could easily argue that “Billy Madison” was the film that broke him into big screen success, it was “Happy Gilmore” that truly elevated him. It’s what lifted him from being a former SNL star to a Hollywood heavyweight. That’s why when we reported on “Happy Gilmore 2” being confirmed, we weren’t immediately repulsed by the idea of another Adam Sandler film. Thanks to Netflix dropping another teaser for the upcoming…

We’ve covered a number of lawsuits in the entertainment industry here on Nerdbot. One that comes to mind that has been ongoing for a few years now involves Warner Bros. Discovery alleging Paramount is in violation of its contract regarding new “South Park” episodes. It’s a complicated mess but has millions of dollars at stake, illustrating how impactful these lawsuits can be. And while this latest lawsuit involving Netflix doesn’t have hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, it is one of the more bizarre cases we’ve come across. The saga begins with director Carl Rinsch and his 2013…

Well, that didn’t take very long, did it? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences really must’ve liked what Conan O’Brien was doing at the 97th Oscars ceremony earlier this year, and who could blame them. The former late-night host and comedy writer helped lead the televised program to its highest ratings in five years. He sang and danced about how he wouldn’t waste time, he had a sand worm playing the harp, and he made a joke about how Miles Teller and Miley Cyrus are named Kilometers and Kilometry outside the United States. Now, he’ll have a chance…
