2021 “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” Sequel Gets Title, Rating

And you’d be forgiven for finding it somewhat confusing. The newest entry in the cheery franchise about the eating habits of America’s homegrown serial killing family is scheduled for release later this year, and has announced not only a rating (which is ‘R’… obviously) but its title.

The name for the latest romp of Chainsaw wielding home décor enthusiast Jedidiah ‘Leatherface’ Sawyer will be “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

That’s right, they really like to make these films difficult to Google. Director David Blue Garcia promises that the new film will function as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper‘s original 1974 horror masterpiece “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and will explore the story of cannibalistic poster-boy Leatherface after the escape of final girl Sally.

If this all sounds oddly familiar, you’re not wrong. In 2013 “Texas Chainsaw 3D” was released, which also functioned as a direct sequel to the original film, also exploring what happened to Leatherface after Sally escaped. What is it about a film as unbelievably important to the history of American Horror as “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” that makes filmmakers not want to expand upon the story, but continually retread the same ground sequel after sequel?

And please filmmakers, think us up some imaginative titles! With “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning,” “Texas Chainsaw 3D,” and now “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” all coming one after another- it’s impossible to remember which ones we’ve seen!

Directed by David Blue Garcia, the sequel will star Mark Burnham (“Lowlife,” “Wrong”) as the villainous Leatherface, and Olwen Fouéré (“Mandy”) as the original final girl, Sally Hardesty.

Find out who will survive and what will be left of them when “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” hits screens later in 2021.
