In 2024, it was announced that Parker Finn (Smile) would be directing and writing a remake of the 1981 film Possession. Now, Paul Dano (Bunker) has signed on to star opposite Callum Turner (Neuromancer) and Margaret Qualley (How to Make a Killing).

Marianne Productions, and Soma Film Produktion)
The original film is written and directed by Andrzej Żuławski, starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill. The duo plays Anna and Mark, a married couple living in West Berlin during the Cold War. When Anna (Adjani) asks for a divorce, her behavior starts to become more and more erratic. Mark (Neill) suspects she is being unfaithful, but what he eventually finds is much more disturbing.
Despite distribution issues in the UK after being classified as a video nasty, the film developed a strong cult following. It also garnered Adjani the prize for Best Actress at Cannes for her brilliantly unhinged performance.
Given its prestige among horror fans and how niche the market was for a film like this, the first time around. We have to ask what audience this remake is for. We are all for the current trend of studios financing small(er)-budget, more niche original films. It just doesn’t seem necessary to duplicate an existing IP with a diehard fanbase that probably won’t accept a remake in the first place.
Finn’s Possession is produced by Finn, Jonathan Fass for Bad Feeling, Roy Lee and Andrew Childs for Vertigo, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is executive producing.
There is currently no set release date for the Possession remake. We’ll keep you posted on updates as the project develops for Paramount. You can watch the trailer for the original film below:
