“Devil May Cry” Gets Third and Final Season at Netflix

Devil May Cry is coming one final time. Netflix officially renewed the animated series on June 4, 2026, announcing that the third season will be its last.

The renewal announcement comes just after Season 2’s launch, which landed and stayed in Netflix’s Global Top 10. The timing was swift, and not really surprising considering the numbers behind the series.

Devil May Cry has spent four weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 across its two seasons, with the show’s inaugural season amassing 21.7 million views in 2025, while its second season garnered 6.4 million in just two weeks.

Season 1 premiered on Netflix on April 3, 2025, and just a week later the series was approved for a second season, which released on May 12, 2026.

Showrunner Adi Shankar has assured fans that it wasn’t an abrupt cancellation, but rather the intended conclusion. “For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time,” Shankar said. “This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno, 2 was Purgatorio, and Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”

Shankar also hinted that Season 3 won’t look like a regular television season. “One last thing… ‘3’ is not going to be a normal third ‘season’ of a TV show. With ‘Season 3,’ I am doing something very different,” he said.

Season 3 is expected to be a shortened finale season, but the shape it will take is up in the air.

Capcom’s video games inspired the show, and it was confirmed by Shankar, known for Castlevania and The Grey, that ending at three seasons was the plan all along. The animation was handled by Studio Mir, and the series has been in development since 2018.

Johnny Yong Bosch provides the voice for the character of Dante, a laid-back professional demon hunter who was born to a human woman and the demon knight Sparda. Robbie Daymond voices Vergil in Season 2.

Rotten Tomatoes lists a 96% approval rating for Season 1 based on 27 reviews. Critics have had good things to say about the show; however, the fans’ response has been more divided.

The show also made an impact beyond Netflix. An announcement in June 2025 confirmed that Devil May Cry 5 had sold more than 10 million copies. Many people credit the Netflix show for bringing visibility to the franchise.

No release date for Devil May Cry Season 3 has been announced yet. Both existing seasons are streaming on Netflix.
