We make a lot of jokes about how quickly popular books get turned into movies these days. Well, Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid) is attached to star in Hollow, a feature film adaptation of a book that won’t hit shelves until fall 2027. The even more interesting part is that the author, Lindsey Anderson Beer, will also be writing and directing the feature film.
While this is Beer’s first novel, she made her directorial debut with 2023’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
Hollow is a reimagining of Washington Irving’s 1820 classic short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It tells the tale of schoolteacher Ichabod Crane, who wants to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy when Brom Bones is trying to do the same. And to add to his issues, this ominous Headless Horseman won’t leave him alone.
Sweeney is currently attached to play Katrina and produce the film through her newly formed Honey Trap banner. LuckyChap will also produce, along with Beer for Brew Lab.
Hallow’s publisher, Putman, an imprint of Penguin Random House, acquired the rights to the book before it could even go to auction. The package for the film adaptations is expected to hit the studio market next week.
