A24’s The Death of Robin Hood has got a trailer and it’s not the Robin Hood we knew and loved.

Hugh Jackman has some grim intentions in the preview for the upcoming feature. He steals from the rich and more. Writer-director Michael Sarnoski puts a new spin on the legend that is releasing into theaters very soon.

Jackman is the weary version of the legendary archer. The flick is about the man behind the myth. The official website says, “Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last.” He is given a fresh start before his last days. A mysterious woman helps him recover from a life-threatening wound. She is played by Jodie Comer who finds him in the woods.

The character isn’t the hero we met.

The character isn’t the hero we met. It’s Origins for the endings. It isn’t about the dashing rogue we have come to know. Instead, it’s about the grown outlaw at his prime. He is a bitter man at the end of his journey. The story is about the toll of the violent life.

Sarnoski has discussed his vision for his new character. He recently gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly. In that discussion, he laid out his intentions. He said, “He was this murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things, and was kind of monstrous. But he’s lived long enough to see this folklore get created about him. He’s figuring out how he feels about that, about being portrayed as a hero when he knows what he really was.”

The cast is also stacked with some recognizable faces. Bill Skarsgård is the lead. Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe round out the cast. Elijah Ungvary is also part of the ensemble. The movie The Death of Robin Hood was shot in Northern Ireland. The project began production in February 2025. Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett produced the film for Lyrical Media.

Sarnoski previously directed the movie Pig. He recently released the movie A Quiet Place: Day One. From the new trailer, The Death of Robin Hood looks rather intense. It feels somewhat like the movie Logan. There are also some The Green Knight and The Northman vibes to the trailer, too. The grit and the intensity live together with the mythic.

The movie will be released on June 19, 2026.
