When it comes to Luigi who do you think of? Naturally for us nerdy folks it’s Luigi from Super Mario Bros. Any of us would name him as a favorite pick if we were asked which Luigi was our favorite. But what happens when you ARE LUIGI? During a press interview for the film Charlie Day who plays Luigi in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie was asked who his favorite Luigi is in American history. His answer? Luigi Mangione.

    Who is Luigi Mangione?

If you’re not familiar, Luigi Mangione is king of a big deal right now. Currently he’s undergoing trial for the alleged murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. When Thompson was shot dead it lead to a nationwide manhunt for the killer. It wasn’t until authorities got an anonymous phone call from a McDonalds did they apprehend him. And many people joke online that they were with him at the time of the shooting, trying to give him an alibi.

Many people think what he did was heroic. Especially since the American healthcare system is a big joke. Many people are unable to receive basic care because when you need something you have to ask your insurance to cover it first. Otherwise you pay exorbitant amounts of money for your medication. It’s a scam of the worst kind, with people’s quality of life at stake.

    The Clip Online

The moment in the interview plays out with humor and sincerity, which is exactly what you’d expect from Day. Charlie Day, most known for his role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia gave an off-the-cuff answer that feels completely unserious. It was however a moment that many fans latched onto. Now we’re all thinking about how many “Luigis” there really are out there. And how many of those Luigi’s are part of American history. I can name one, and it’s also Luigi Mangione. Watch the clip below to watch the silliness unfold.
