Evan and Greg Spiridellis, creators of the award-winning Storybots educational series for kids are now working on their first animated film. Space Unicorn is coming from their next-gen animation studio Spiridellis Bros. Studio.
Space Unicorn follows Astraluna Opal, a wide-eyed misfit unicorn who is the last spark of joy in all of Unicornopolis, a society so worn down by the workload of delivering rainbows that it has forgotten how to experience happiness itself. When she and her reluctant sidekick wind up stranded on a distant planet, they must take on a villainous techno-tyrant bent on replacing real joy with his own synthetic, always-on brand: JOYYY®. With the help of a punk-rock banana, a thrill-seeking chimp, and a frog in his underwear, Astraluna discovers that true happiness isn’t manufactured — it’s shared.
Synopsis via Deadline
The Spiridellis Bros will direct from a script written by Marc Haimes (Kubo and the Two Strings) Gary Foster (Bedford Park, Sleepless in Seattle) will produce under his Krasnoff Foster Production banner with Tracie Fiss doing the casting.
The film is based on Parry Grip‘s viral song of the same name. This is a collaboration between Spirdellis Bros. Studios and the Daytime Emmy-winning musician. Spiridellis Bros. Studios now has the exclusive rights to create stories, characters and worlds from his full catalog into a new family entertainment universe called the Parryverse. If they play their cards right, it could lead to a giant franchise development like that of Dr. Seuss or Roald Dahl.
