Link, Zelda Cast for Live-Action “Legend of Zelda” Film

After the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, the world held its collective breath to see if Nintendo‘s other legendary franchises would be making it to the big screen. Sure enough, “The Legend of Zelda” wasn’t too far behind. A few big, lingering questions remained, including who was going to play the key roles of Link and Zelda. Now we know thanks to series creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

Miyamoto took to Nintendo’s official Twitter (now X) account to make the announcement.

When a message from Nintendo starts off with, “This is Miyamoto,” you know it’s probably going to be big news and in this case it definitely was.

The role of Zelda is being filled by English actress Bo Bragason while the role of Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth.

Both the leading stars are relatively fresh faces and young enough to fit the lore of Link being no older than a teenager in most of the games. Bragason’s most recent roles include the BBC series, “The Jetty” and the short lived Disney+ series, “Renegade Nell.” Ainsworth has been featured in the Canadian comedy series, “Son of a Critch,” an episode of “The Sandman,” and was notably the voice of Pinocchio in the 2022 Disney remake of the titular puppet.

With those two roles filled, the next natural question will be who’s going to fulfill the role of the villainous Ganon. We look forward to bringing you more information as it’s announced. The “Legend of Zelda” franchise is arguably Nintendo’s most prestigious title. It has a tremendous legacy to live up to and are eager to see how things continue to develop.

The film is set for release on May 7th, 2027. Which is a bit of a shift from the originally announced date, but not too terrible considering it’s only a little more than a month from when it was supposed to hit.

This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/KA5XW3lwul
