Amanda Seyfried Confirms “Jennifer’s Body” Sequel Happening

Certain movies just seem destined to become clut classics. A little over 15 years ago, one of those films hit theaters starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. “Jennifer’s Body” seemed like it could’ve been a hit given the talent in front of the camera and behind it, but alas it wound up being relegated to that category of cult classics that are more fondly remembered later on than what they were judged for at the time. Sometimes they even get sequels because of this, and “Jennifer’s Body” is on the path to getting one.

In an interview with Variety, Seyfried sat down with former co-star Adam Brody, and the subject of the original film and a sequel were brought up. The subject seemed to take Brody by surprise as he noted he hadn’t been asked back. (If you’ve seen the original, then you probably know why that would be the case.) That being said, Seyfried was keen on finding a part for her former co-star, possibly in the role of the devil. Which, if you’re going to return for a demonic sequel, would certainly be one hell of a role to play.

“We’re making another one,” Seyfried said, along with noting that producer Mason Novick is pushing the project forward. The original film was written by Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama; no word yet if they’d be returning to their respective roles. However, Seyfried did indicate that Kusama could potentially be on board since she did want to work with the director again. Seyfried also noted that Fox would have to be involved stating, “I’m not doing it without her.” Which makes sense considering it’d be hard to have a sequel to “Jennifer’s Body” without Fox as Jennifer, and her body. Though Seyfried did say, perhaps jokingly, that the sequel could be titled “Needy’s Body” in reference to her character, Anita.

The original film was potentially a victim of its own premise at the time and its marketing. Fox had become a sex symbol coming off of the success of “Transformers,” and the movie seemed like it was just trying to cash in on that. Which is kind of the point as it turned out. The film leaned heavily into weaponized sexuality and was far more subversive than it was exploitative. It just took a decade or so for people to start realizing that. We look forward to hearing more about the upcoming sequel and the continuing saga of our favorite succubus.
