Amazon Cancels “The Wheel of Time” After Three Seasons

In 2021, Amazon Prime Video premiered its series adaptation of the late Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” novels. After a three season run, the show has been cancelled. This decision comes a little over a month after the finale of season 3.

The cancellation reason is believed to be mostly financial, given the fantasy drama’s high price tag.

“The Wheel of Time” follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), who is part of the Aes Sedai, a powerful all-female organization. She sets out on a global quest with five young men and women, one of whom is the prophesied Dragon Reborn. A person, that legend has it, will either save or destroy humanity.

It was Prime Video’s most-watched series premiere in 2021. It remains one of the streamer’s top 5 show launches of all time. Since then, it stayed a critical hit, but viewership fell- dropping out of Nielsen’s Top 10 Originals ranking three weeks into season 3.

Season 3 was reportedly handled with a possible cancellation in mind, so it does offer some closure.

“The Wheel of Time” stars Pike alongside Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, and Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon.  Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand, Sophie Okonedo as Siuan Sanche, Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin Guirale, Natasha O’Keeffe as Lanfear, Ayoola Smart as Aviendha, Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw, and Priyanka Bose as Alanna Mosvani also star.

You can catch all three seasons of “The Wheel of Time” on Prime Video.
