Since 1962, Chicago has famously dyed its river green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. This year’s dying event happened on March 15th, and had a special appearance by New Jersey legend the Toxic Avenger! Our favorite monster wasn’t just there to party, he is also working hard to promote Macon Blair‘s (“Room 104”) reboot, which FINALLY has a theatrical release date.

The original film hit theaters in 1984 and was co-directed by Troma Entertainment co-founders Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman. It tells the story of Melvin, a bullied janitor at the Tromaville health spa who falls into a vat of toxic waste, after a prank. Instead of killing him, the waste transforms him into the mutated superhero, The Toxic Avenger. Toxie quickly became a mascot for Troma Studios, creating a franchise of films, cartoons, toys, and comics.
Blair’s film is a modern reboot for this character, now played by Peter Dinklage (“The Thicket”). Dinklage stars alongside Kevin Bacon (“Tremors”), Elijah Wood (“Yellowjackets”), Jacob Tremblay (“Room”), Julia Davis (“Person of Interest”), and Taylour Paige (“Zola”).
“The Toxic Avenger” hits theaters on August 29th, 2025. You can check out a video of Toxie helping dye the river below:
