Studiocanal Head Says 4th “Paddington” Film Planned

Remember when we remarked how pleasantly surprised we were that “Paddington” became a successful film series? Of all the beautiful slices of childhood reading, our money was not on that delightful little bear. And maybe it’s a sign that there’s still some joy left in humanity that “Paddington” has become box office gold.

With the third film about to hit North America, Studiocanal has confirmed a 4th film is on the way.

Production company Studiocanal has big plans for Its little bear. In a wide-ranging interview, Studiocanal CEO, Anna Marsh spoke about how the company was expanding. After having a highly successful 2024, they’re looking to capitalize on certain IPs while also expanding their range of films and locations of films.

“Paddington in Peru” is the aforementioned third film in the franchise. It’s received strong critical reviews and looks to be another box office success for the studio. According to Marsh, they are already discussing a fourth film as well as a television series, and stage musical.

“We’re thinking about the next movies and we’re working on a new TV series as well as the stage show musical with Sonia Friedman and Eliza Lumley,” Marsh said.

That’s a lot of Paddington. The character, originally created by author Michael Bond, has more than enough stories to go around. Considering Bond himself wrote almost 30 “Paddington” books, there’s not really a shortage of ideas to work with. As long as they translate well to the screen, we’re not going to argue with continual dosages of wholesomeness. Let’s just hope that years down the road, no one decides to give Paddington the “Blood and Honey” treatment.

“Paddington in Peru” hits theaters February 14th, 2025.
