Armie Hammer Maintains He’s Not Actual Cannibal on Podcast

We’ve talked quite a bit about the rise and fall of Armie Hammer. He’s not the only actor to have their career come tumbling down due to allegations of assault and abuse towards women. He is however, the only one to have accusations of cannibalism thrown into the mix. It’s almost comical to think about that, and perhaps it’s easy to focus on because it feels like comedy of the absurd next to some pretty serious and depressing matters. Hammer has come back into the limelight recently by appearing on podcasts and announcing he has an upcoming film with Uwe Bole. But now he’s also addressing those cannibal accusations on a more high-profile podcast hosted by Louis Theroux.

Armie Hammer, “Death on the Nile” 20th Century Studios

Theroux is a British documentarian and television host who has put out a lot of great material over the last couple decades. He has a style that can seem very laid-back and unassuming, until he gets pretty serious and starts asking tough, sometimes antagonistic questions. In previous interviews Hammer has done with others, he didn’t seem to seriously address some of the things that were being thrown at him. Theroux on the other hand, brings things to the forefront and Hammer faces them more directly.

In a clip of the podcast, Hammer discusses his history of “love bombing” women. “I’m very, I’m very quick to admit that I was selfish, and inconsiderate, and an asshole, and a cad, and I used people to make me feel better. People were sort of like my bags of dope with skin on them. There’s no way around that. Does it make me a dick? Absolutely. Like, I, I have no problem admitting that. I was a dick.”

He also maintains nothing he did was illegal, though and references the police investigation that was conducted. Could it also be noted that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence of a crime? Potentially, yes,

Then there’s the cannibal thing, which Hammer discusses more directly than he has before. He says the leaked photos of his “100% a cannibal” messages only show his messages, not the other person’s. He claims it just shows a one-sided conversation, and the context is missing. He also says he’s never actually eaten human flesh.

“Did I ever have any intention of cutting anything off of anyone or eating anything off of anyone? No,” Hammer said. “Was it fun to joke about if I was stoned or drunk or like laughing as I was typing these messages? Sure. That’s where context comes in.”

Subjects like this are never easy and obviously Hammer has hurt a few people, we just may never be able to fully know the extent of it.
