Despite what Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon may encourage you to think, farming is not exactly a…COZY job. The hours are long, the labor is hard, and factors beyond your control like mother nature itself can massively impact you. The increase in egg prices has been a focal point in political discourse again, and it may have even encouraged a robbery worth $40,000.
Greencastle, Pennsylvania played host to an egg theft of over 100,000 of the precious little ovals. The goods were seized from the back of a truck parked outside Pete and Gerry’s Organics. The company works with a number of small, independent farms, and have specialized in organic farming since 1997. Regrettably, poultry farms have not been in a good place lately as bird flu has been ravaging flocks and therefore, the number of eggs they can sell.
Authorities do not have any leads or suspects. The case leaves a number of big questions currently unanswered. Who did this is one of them, for obvious reasons. Another is, how did the thieves manage to make off with 100,000 eggs? That’s not exactly an insignificant amount, and would likely required a good deal of coordination. Was it inspired by the increasing costs of eggs? Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to contact Pennsylvania State Police Chambersburg.
Of course the other question is what are you going to do with 100,000 eggs? Presumably you don’t steal that amount for the sake of cooking. Is there a market for bootleg eggs? Are there people who just go around saying, “Hey man, want to buy some eggs?” And then they open up their trench coat and there’s a bunch of eggs just hanging there? We’d love to see this mystery get solved if only to get some answers.
