Congressman Believes Aliens Have “Secret Underwater Bases”

Tell me you’ve watched “The Abyss” too many times without actually telling me you’ve seen “The Abyss?” If you haven’t seen the classic 1989 James Cameron film, you’re missing out. It culminates with the discovery of an advanced alien race living deep under Earth’s ocean. We’re not saying a certain representative from Tennessee has seen this film, but he seems to have come to the same conclusion.

Rep. Tim Burchett has long been sounding a conspiratorial horn regarding the existence of aliens and government cover ups.

Burchett appeared on disgraced former congressman Matt Gaetz‘s program earlier this week. On the show, he shared his belief that aliens have bases underwater. “When they tell me something’s moving at hundreds of miles an hour underwater, and our capabilities … and these things, this one was, it was large as a football field underwater. And this was a documented case, and … and I have an admiral telling me this stuff,” Burchett said.

What admiral? Where are the documents? How did they verify all this? Who knows. This is going from the realm of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (the new preferred term for UFOs) to whatever the water equivalent is.

The thing with UAPs is yes, there DOES exist a record of strange things in the sky. People have seen weird things in the skies for decades. Maybe Burchett is right, and the government should be more transparent about these things. That said, Occam’s Razor should apply and we should always remind ourselves that the simplest explanation is likely the correct one. Is it more likely a UAP is from terrestrial origin that we just don’t know about as opposed to aliens? Yes. Is it more likely that an underwater abnormality is natural as opposed to unnatural? Yes.

We’re in a perilous place for logic and reason lately. If you want to believe like Fox Mulder did, that’s great. But one should always remember that conspiratorial mindsets can be toxic. Keeping an open mind also means understanding the legitimacy of the evidence you have and don’t have. Or maybe we should all just form our beliefs on “The Abyss“ and hope that Ed Harris will save us all.
