Jennifer Love Hewitt WILL RETURN for Next “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

For over a year, there has been much debate about whether Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. would be reprising their roles in the next “I Know What You Did Last Summer” film. Prinze officially confirmed his casting in late September. Hewitt remained so elusive, she had everyone screaming, “What are you waiting for?!”

The actress has officially confirmed via social media that she will return as Julie James in the film.

The next addition to the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Their screenplay is based on a draft by Leah McKendrick (“Scrambled”). Hewitt (“9-1-1”) and Prinze (“The Girl in the Pool”) will star with Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, and Billy Campbell (“The Rocketeer”).

“I Know What You Did Last Summer”

At this time very little is known about the plot for Kaytin Robinson’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The original 1997 film is based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. It tells the story of four friends  (played by Prinze Jr, Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe) who accidentally run over a pedestrian. Panicked, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. That is, until a year later when the group starts getting cryptic messages about their dark secret. Eventually, they get killed off one by one by a mysterious person armed with a hook.

This will be the 4th film in the franchise alongside 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and 2006’s “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.” As well as an Amazon Prime Video series that launched in 2021.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is slated to hit theaters on July 18th, 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as they become available. You can check out Hewitt’s announcement below:
