Bruce Campbell Confirms 2 “Evil Dead” Movies, Animated Series STILL in the Works

Over 40 years after Sam Raimi wrote and directed the classic horror film “The Evil Dead,” the franchise just won’t die. Last year, Lee Cronin’s “Evil Dead Rise” solidified the series’ new direction by moving away from focusing on Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell), and more on his Deadiet foe. This idea was first planted by Fede Álvarez (“Alien: Romulus“) in his 2013 “Evil Dead” reboot.

Franchise co-founder Campbell reconfirmed that two new “Evil Dead” films, and a long-awaited animated series, are all still happening. Eventually.

    Animated Series

During a press tour for his new Peacock series “Hysteria!,” Campbell was asked about the animated series. “We’re just developing it,” he told Comicbook.com. “So we are, but these are slow-motion, molasses processes, so it could be years away. And so are two more movies.”

While Campbell is stepping away as Ash in the live-action installments, animation opens up a new realm. It allows Deadiets to get away with even more carnage and lets the actor continue to play Ash. “We are developing an animated version, like a series,” Campbell told Entertainment Weekly in August. “I’ll do that. I’ll do Ash’s voice all day long because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have.”

    2 More Films

The first of the new “Evil Dead ” films will be directed by Sébastien Vaniček (“Infested”). Very little is known about the plot, but it has been described as a “nasty” spin-off. There were rumblings about a Halloween 2025 release, but given how little information there is, that seems doubtful unless they are shooting it in total secrecy like Adam Green did with 2017’s “Victor Crowley.“

The second “Evil Dead” film is being developed by Francis Galluppi (“Last Stop in Yuma County”) from an original idea. Raimi, Campbell, and fellow franchise veteran Rob Tapert are all on board to produce both movies.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about these “Evil Dead” projects as they become available.
