Production is officially a-go in the UK on the “Peaky Blinders” movie, based on the popular BBC drama series. The studio has just released first-look photos of Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Tommy Shelby. The film is written by series creator Steven Knight, and directed by franchise director Tom Harper.
The upcoming film will also star Rebecca Ferguson (“Dune”), Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”), and Tim Roth (“Pulp Fiction”). Murphy is returning as Tommy, the leader of the eponymous Birmingham gangster family. Details about other roles are still being kept under wraps.
“Peaky Blinders” the series ended after six seasons in April 2022, but that was not the end of the story. While plot details for the film are also scarce, Knight confirmed it will be set during World War II. “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,” he said. “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
“There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew,” adds Harper. “We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
Producers for the film include Knight, Murphy, Patrick Holland, and Guy Heeley. Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Caryn Mandabach, and Andrew Warren will executive produce.
