Jack Black, Paul Rudd in Talks For “Anaconda” Reimagining

In 1997, “Anaconda” hit theaters, while the tale of a murderous snake didn’t delight the critics. It did well enough to spawn a few sequels and develop a cult fanbase. Now, Jack Black (“Borderlands”) and Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man”) are in talks to star in a reboot of the film.

Tom Gormican (“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”) will co-write the reimaging, alongside Kevin Etten (“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”), as well as direct.

The 1997 film starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. It centered around a National Geographic film crew egarly hunting for the world’s largest and deadliest snake. That is, until they find it.

It is speculated that the new film will revolve around a group of friends facing midlife crises. To recapture the magic of their youth they decide to remake their favorite childhood film. So, they set off for the rainforest, only to find themselves battling natural disasters, giant snakes, and violent criminals.

While no casting decisions are final, sources are reporting that one of the characters will be a former director who is tired of his job as a wedding videographer. And another character will be an actor who had a part on a cop show but is now grappling with his Hollywood dreams fading. It’s believed that Rudd and Black will be filling these roles but there is nothing concrete yet on who will be who.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Anaconda” reimagining as they become available. The original film is currently streaming on STARZ.
