Today, we have some sad news for fans of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece.” Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis (“Freaky Friday”) will not be playing Dr. Kureha in season 2 of the show. She was never publicly confirmed in the role, although fancasting has been vocal. Apparently various scheduling conflicts with her current roster of projects lead to her being simply unavailable for filming.

    Dr. Kureha, “One Piece”

    Why?

This casting shakeup was revealed in a recent interview with the CEO of Tomorrow Studios Marty Adelstein and company President Becky Clements. During the discussion, Clements was asked about some back-and-fourth online about Curtis working on “One Piece.”

“She loves the show,” Clements said. “She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it, but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.”

Curtis is currently working on several projects with two of the biggest being the film adaptation of the “Borderlands” video game and the long-rumored “Freaky Friday 2.” Many fans were already wondering how she would juggle “One Piece” with everything else.

So, who WILL play Dr. Kureha? “We have found an amazing person,” Clements said. But no casting for the role has been revealed.

There is no set release date for season 2 of “One Piece.” But we will keep you posted on updates as the project develops. Season 1 of the live action and all seasons of the original anime on Netflix. Check out the announcement video for season 2 below:
