Armie Hammer Discusses Life After “Cannibal” Fallout

There was a time where actor Armie Hammer‘s biggest problem was getting out of the hole that 2013’s “The Lone Ranger” film did to his career. It took him years to recover from that box-office bomb but come the dawn of the 2020’s, it looked like his career was actually coming back to critical and commercial success. And then it all went to hell thanks to accusations of sexual assault in 2021. Since then, Hammer’s public appearances have been scarce which makes his appearance on a small YouTube podcast this week all the more surprising.

The “Painful Lessons” YouTube channel is hosted by a friend of Hammer’s named Tyler Ramsey. As of the time of this writing, the channel only has 427 subscribers and the episode with Armie is sitting at a little over 23,000 views. If you were expecting to hear the details about what went on in Hammer’s bedroom with the BDSM and cannibal accusations, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Hammer doesn’t really discuss what happened that derailed his career, he instead talks about how he’s been moving forward.

We should note, that while Hammer was not charged with any crimes due to insufficient evidence, there were some serious allegations of assault and abuse levied against him. Hammer only discusses the cannibal stuff but seems to do so as if he believes people actually thought he was a cannibal. Maybe there were a handful of people who thought that, but it feels like a majority of people knew he wasn’t, but were creeped out by his expressing cannibalistic fantasies.

The rest of the podcast feels like Tyler is giving his friend a chance to share what he’s been going through in life and the toll this took on him. Friends like Robert Downey Jr. tried to help Hammer bounce back into sobriety. Also, while it’s hard to know for sure whether or not Hammer is doing this out of a play for sympathy, there are some thoughts he expresses that are legitimately important.

He makes some references to depression and how a person can seemingly “have it all” in terms of success but not feel fulfilled. He also takes time to note that you have to take steps to be happy with what you have and make the most out of the situation you’re in.

You can listen to the entire podcast interview below and come to your own conclusions about Hammer’s journey and his sincerity about his new path in life.
