Cat Fight Breaks Out During “Garfield” Movie Showing

We all know everyone’s favorite orange cat Garfield is a bit of a rapscallion, but we never thought he would inspire full-blown physical violence. And it wasn’t even a Monday, which the feline historically hates. A fistfight broke out during a showing of the new “Garfield” movie in Leon, Spain.

A video posted to X (formally Twitter) shows two men trading blows while the family-friendly film plays in the background. While the theater doesn’t appear to be packed there are still plenty of families and children watching the chaos.

We can confirm that this brawl was not over the theater running out of lasagna, because they don’t serve it. It was also ruled out that the gentlemen were arguing over who hated Mondays or loved Garfield more.

    Why?

It turns out, that one of the men involved in the fight was six-time national amateur champion boxer Antonio Barrul. Much to his opponent’s chagrin, he just turned pro last year. Barrul, says the fight was sparked by threats from another audience member and he “couldn’t control” himself.

“Everything was chaos and a disaster,” Barrul told Radioestadio Noche. “He started to threaten me and it got worse and worse until I decided to go down (to where he was sitting). I couldn’t control myself and what you see in the video happened.”

In the video, you can see Barrul land a series of punches, and knees to the other man’s body and head. Fellow “Garfield” audience members eventually pulled him out of the one-sided fight.

“I apologized in the cinema and publicly because those images do not make me proud,” Barrul apologized. “What is shown in that video is not who I am. I would try (if the same thing happened again) to get the security to come and take him away. If security had come on time, many things could have been avoided.”

We hope all future screenings of “Garfield” are less violent.
