Meet Sparkles, Boston Dynamics’ Less-Creepy Robot Dog

When you think of Boston Dynamics, you likely think of their yellow and black dog robot. For lots of people, it seems a bit creepy because they’re not sure where its eyes are. Christopher Walken once did a skit about not trusting plants because they have no eyes and that’s what sticks out prominently when I think about their previous canine robot, Spot. With the aim to make their creations more friendly, they’ve covered Spot’s skeleton with a Muppet-like exterior. Blue sparkly fur, cute eyes and a big old nose. Reminds us a bit of Big Bird’s dog Barkley.

“It’s cute and all but what about when it extends it’s head four feet and opens a door,” some said. Once again proving people in the comments for Boston Dynamics never disappoint. Or like what @thebearded4427 said- “Ok so Armageddon will be humans getting chased down by animatronic Muppets with googly eyes and cute voices. That is quite possible the most nightmare fuel thing I’ve imagined in a long time. Hollywood doesn’t need writers, Boston dynamic writes this stuff for free.”

    And they’re not wrong???

Having watched all the “Terminator” movies has me prepared for the absolute worst. I’m not that afraid of most the electronics I have in my home, except for the Google home that seems to be listening to me all the time. Seriously why does she say “Hmmm?” when I’m talking to my husband. Rude! I can imagine that if these things went out roaming the streets covered in fur and acting all cute, I 100% believe that they could lead the children through the neighborhood like the Pied Piper.

Ah well, it sure is cute anyway. Enjoy this video that was put out of Sparkles and Spot dancing together. If you watch long enough you can even see them boop snoots!
