Have you ever been on your morning commute and thought; “I sure would love to use the HOV lane without the annoyance of another passenger?” Well, one Santa Fe Springs driver found a solution, drive with a mannequin. And they would have gotten away with it too, had it not been for that meddling California Highway Patrol (CHP).
On April 25th, CHP Santa Fe Springs posted on Instagram that one of its officers stopped a motorist in the HOV lane who crossed solid double lines. That’s when they discovered that their passenger was a mannequin.
“we’ve gotta give it to them, the appearance is next level modeling but at the end of the day… plastic is plastic,” wrote CHP. “The goatee was sharp … just a little too sharp,” the post adds.
Almost The Perfect Crime
So impeccable grooming and bearing a slight resemblance to Snoop Dogg is all it took for the eagle-eyed officer to spot the plastic passenger. The driver was issued a citation for multiple carpool violations.
CHP suggests planning for your commute and knowing your route and the general challenges of your drive. This planning should help avoid being in a rush and tempted to push your luck. This isn’t the first time someone has resorted to using a fake passenger to use the carpool lane either. Back in August CHP in Maring caught another motorist doing the same thing with a much less convincing dummy.
