Have you ever seen a character role and immediately thought a certain actor would be great for it? Most often this scenario leads to actors being type casted and playing similar roles throughout their careers. That is until you see actors in a role so shockingly opposite their usual gigs. It is sometimes jarring seeing the quintessential “good guy” love interest play a devious villain.

Channing Tatum in “Blink Twice | Bruce Cohen Productions, Free Association, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)

The trailer for Zoë Kravitz‘s (“The Batman“) directorial debut “Blink Twice” stars Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike“) as the villain. News of Kravitz’s directing first broke nearly three years ago and the film was going by “P*ssy Island” at the time. We have to say, seeing Tatum taking on the role of the villain is very surprising. We’re also shocked at some of the big names casted in this interesting project. And after watching the trailer a few times, we can see so many red flags with Tatum’s character.

The trailer starts out with Naomi Ackie‘s (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody“) character, Frida, meeting Tatum’s character. Tatum plays tech billionaire, Slater King, who is hosting a fundraiser gala. The two meet and sparks fly, then Slater begins introducing Frida to his friends at the gala. Before the gala ends Slater asks Frida and her friend if they would like to join him and his friends on his private island. Frida and her friend agree and we’re treated to a little montage of everyone enjoying their time on the island.

So far this sounds like a charming little getaway after a meet cute, but then things get really weird. Frida’s friend, played by Alia Shawkat (“Arrested Development“), goes missing and everyone feels off. Now Frida has to figure out what’s going on, if she wants to leave this island alive. We’re sorry, but with the horror stories of modern dating, Tatum’s character gives “nice guy” vibes.

This is definitely a huge difference compared to the roles we’re used to seeing Tatum in. He still be playing a “love interest,” but this time in a more sinister nature. Kravitz taking a chance on choosing Tatum for this role seems like it will definitely pay off. We are seriously interested in seeing how Kravitz “vision of lust and deception” is received later this fall.

Kravitz also co-wrote “Blink Twice” with E.T. Feigenbaum. Tatum, Ackie, and Shawcat are also joined by some pretty big names. Simon Rex, Geena Davis, Christian Slater (“The Spiderwick Chronicles“), Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan (“Dune,” “Fallout“), and Adria Arjona are all in the cast.

“Blink Twice” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 23rd, 2024. Check out the trailer down below now.
