“Speak No Evil” Remake Starring James McAvoy Gets First Trailer

We have more exciting news out of CinemaCon 2024! The upcoming remake of the Danish film “Speak No Evil” starring James McAvoy (“Split”) just got its first trailer.

The psychological thriller will focus on a budding friendship between two different families. The seemingly sweet Paddy (McAvoy) and Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) meet their new besties Louise (Mackenzie Davis), Ben (Scoot McNairy), and their children on vacation in Italy. Everyone gets along so well that Paddy invites Ben’s family to visit them for a weekend. When the family takes them up on the offer they soon learn that far more sinister forces are at work here.

This may be the strangest “Halt and Catch Fire” reunion ever

“Paddy is a charming and gregarious friend, host and father, and on the other hand, he’s not that. At all,” director and co-writer James Watkins explains. Adding that making the film “was like summer camp with a slight deviant edge.” Writers Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup also helped to pen the script.

    The “Speak No Evil” Trailer

The trailer for “Speak No Evil” shows some serious foreshadowing that Paddy and Ciara aren’t who they appear to be. Like demanding Louise, a vegetarian, eat meat. Paddy scolds and throws things at his non-verbal son when he fails to dance to “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex. While it was always perplexing that square dancing was taught in American schools, that seems excessive.

Later on, that same non-verbal child desperately tries to communicate that his tongue has been cut out. We think you can take a wild guess as to who may have committed such a horrific act.

“Speak No Evil” hits theaters on September 13th courtesy of Univeral and Blumhouse. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as they become available. You can check out the disturbing first trailer below:
