$30 Million+ Stolen from Cash Storage Facility in Easter Heist

While most families were enjoying time together on Easter Sunday, it seems others were busy pulling off a daring heist. Upwards of $30 million in cash has been stolen from the GardaWorld facility in Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley.

    The Heist

The thieves entered the cash storage facility by going through the roof. This allowed them to not set off any alarms, and remain undetected during this daring caper. From there, they somehow got into the cash storage area of the facility which, according to officials briefed on the investigation, may have been a vault.

The company that owns the building did not discover the theft until operations resumed on Monday morning. ABC7 Los Angeles’ AIR7 HD helicopter flew over the building the morning of April 4th and recorded what seems to be a hole on the side of the building that was boarded up. There is also a pile of debris near the area, but there is no confirmation on whether this was related to the theft or not.

    The Investigation

The Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI are currently investigating the robbery. While it hasn’t been officially disclosed how much was stolen, it’s believed to be one of the biggest thefts in L.A. history. At this time, no suspects have been publicly announced. It is assumed due to how intricate the break-in must have been, that a team was responsible for the heist.

“It’s just mind blowing that you would never suspect it,” an employee who wished to remain anonymous said. “$30 million in the Valley, gone. How? Why? I’m still trying to process it. Was it an inside job? Was it just one person? Was it a group? You know, there’s a lot of questions.”

We will keep you posted on updates about this case as it develops.
