Make Your Own DIY Mermaid Crown Using Orbees!

Since being a real life mermaid has been a growing trend you may be wondering what accessories would go with your new fin. While you could go out and buy coral bracelets and seashell accoutrements, there is still one thing missing for any mermaid or merman. A Crown!

YouTuber Joe Myheck has created a system that makes nearly perfect crowns just by pouring molten metal over a bowl full of orbees. You’ll notice in the video linked below that he pours the metal mixture of gold colored alloy copper, aluminum, zinc and tin in a circular motion. You’ll probably want to measure the circumference of your head before you pour and try to get the same dimensions when pouring the metal.

The result of the pour looks like a coral reef and is reminiscent of when people pour aluminum into ant hills. You get a beautiful one of a kind structure that you can then either balance on your head, or fuse barrettes to so that you can secure it in place without fear of it falling off. I don’t think the crown would break on impact but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The hardest part about this method from watching seems to be getting the orbees off of the finished crown. But that shouldn’t be too frustrating. If you wanted to you could just let the orbees lose moisture slowly and then you may be left with colorful speckles on your newly formed crown. I think that would look really pretty.

Think of all the different cosplays you can make using this method! Ariel’s sisters come to mind as well as creating an original character of your own. Check out the video down below to watch Myheck create a beautifully unique mermaid crown.
