Royal Mail is issuing sets of 15 stamps celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls. This is the first time Royal Mail has dedicated a stamp set to a pop group. The group is arguably one of the world’s most successful musical acts.

The “girl power” group consisting of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, and Emma Bunton first formed in 1994. They became one of the biggest “Girl Power” acts under their stage names Posh, Ginger, Sporty, Scary, and Baby Spice. We can’t think of a girl in the late 90s that wasn’t part of the “Spice mania” that swept the planet. The Spice Girls would release two albums with 9 number one singles in the United Kingdom and a feature film before breaking up.
10 of the main stamps in the set will feature images from the groups various performances from 1997 to 2012. Examples of these include their performance at the 1997 Brit Awards and the closing ceremony at the 2012 London Olympics. Halliwell-Horner in her iconic Union Jack dress at the 1997 Brits will also be a featured stamp in the set. All of the stamps will feature a portrait of King Charles, a standard feature since April 2023 on all Royal Mail stamps.
“The Spice Girls have been a force to be reckoned with since they formed as a group in 1994,” said Royal Mail Director of External Affairs and Policy, David Gold. “We are proud to celebrate the most successful female music group ever seen, not only for their music but their enduring influence over so many aspects of our lives.”
Royal Mail will have now featured six music groups with dedicated stamp issues. This includes The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, The Rolling Stones in 2022, and Iron Maiden in 2023.The Spice Girls stamps will go on general sale on January 11th, 2024.
