We [Still] Believe “The Lost Boys” Musical is Happening

“Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die.”

1987’s classic vampire film “The Lost Boys” is being made into a musical, directed by Michael Arden, fresh off his Tony-winning Broadway revival of “Parade.” David Hornsby (“Merry Little Batman”) and Chris Hoch will be handling the book.

The Rescues will be providing the score with Tony nominee Ethan Popp (“Tina, The Tina Turner Musical”) as music supervisor. James Carpinello, Marcus Chait, and Patrick Wilson are set to produce. This musical is being done under a special arrangement with Warner Bros Pictures, who holds the rights to the original film. Meaning, it is an official and authorized production, no matter how much of a fever dream it sounds like.

“The Lost Boys” was directed by the late Joel Schumacher (“Phone Booth”), from a story by James Jeremias and Janice Roberta Fischer. It centers around two teen boys who move to Santa Carla, California to live with their mother. After an encounter with notorious monster hunters the Frog brothers, they learn the town is infested with vampires.

It starred 80s heavyweights Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and Dianne Wiest. It spawned two (long after the fact) sequels with 2008’s “Lost Boys: The Tribe” and 2010’s “Lost Boys: The Thirst.” (As well as that frought-with-problems offshoot series at The CW.)

Currently, there is no confirmed cast or plot for “The Lost Boys” musical. But if it isn’t heavy on sexy saxophone solos we will be sorely disappointed. (Also, Amazon has the 4K on sale for $8.99 right now if you don’t already have it!) You can check out a trailer for the original movie below.
