Cultural icon Lynda Carter has released an inspiring new song called “Rise Up.” Carter is best known for playing the titular superhero in the 1980s live-action series “Wonder Woman.” But she has been releasing music since the late 1970s.

On November 10th, Carter posted “Rise Up” on Instagram accompanied by an illustration of her by artist Sanna Legan. The image has Carter in a gold jacket, with her arms crossed in the legendary Wonder Woman pose.

The new song and call to action immediately got fans fired up. “This is the perfect song for you! It embodies everything you and WW stand for,” wrote Instagram user roro515. “Can’t wait to see the submissions of everyone doing awesome things.” Other commenters are in agreement dubbing the new song an “anthem” and “inspiring.”

While the song is an uplifting battle cry, it developed from a deeply painful place for Carter. “Rise Up” is inspired by the loss of her husband, Robert Altman, who died in 2021 of blood cancer.

“You need to move forward, you need to take the next step; put your one foot in front of the other,” Carter said during an interview about the song. “No matter whether it’s the loss of a pregnancy, or it’s the loss of a loved one, or if it’s a job… or if you’re frustrated, or if you’re lonely. You still need to pick yourself up and move ahead.”

Leave it to Wonder Woman to turn something so devastating into a battle cry for countless people. “Rise Up” Is currently available on Apple Music, Spotify, and all other major music streaming platforms.
