Chad Stahelski’s “Highlander” Reboot Launching Sales at AFM

While there have been several rumors about “Highlander” reboots, there can be only one, and it is FINALLY making some progress! For the first time, Lionsgate will launch sales at the American Film Market (AFM) on their long-gestating fantasy reboot.

“Highlander” already has some serious talent attached with Henry Cavill set to star and Chad Stahelski attached to direct. Stahelski is best known for creating the action-packed “John Wick” franchise. He has already talked about the film being like “John Wick” with swords. And if we learned anything from “The Witcher” it’s that Cavill has certainly studied the blade.

It also seems like Lionsgate is willing to throw some serious money at this project, with a rumored budget of around $100 million. This is believable considering the “Highlander” reboot will be the bell of the ball at AFM due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike drying up the pool of pre-sale projects.

Not to mention Hollywood loves building on a well-established IP. The upcoming movie would be based on the original 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown. The plot centers around immortal beings, hunting down one another to collect more power, because “there can be only one.”

It did well enough to spawn four sequels and three TV series. The first series starring Adrian Paul being one of the most popular entries to the franchise. It’s also hard to top a theme song by the band Queen, who also wrote six songs for the soundtrack to the first film. (C’mon, Bear McCreary for the reboot!)

This current reboot of “Highlander” has a screenplay by Mike Finch. Its development was initiated by the late Peter S. Davis, who served as a producer on the first film. Summit first acquired remake rights to the original in 2008. So this project has been in the works for a while, to say the least.

Currently, they are aiming to start production in 2024. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Highlander” reboot as they become available.
