We Went to Free Movie Weekend Thanks to Vidiots, Pluto TV

This past weekend I had the privilege to take my kids to a theater screening of “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” at Vidiots in Eagle Rock. The showing was free thanks to Pluto TV and it was a great experience for the whole family.

Pluto TV was kind enough to buy out all the movie screenings that weekend. All you had to do was register and you got a ticket and some swag for free! We picked up some cool Pluto TV towels for the family which was really exciting for me because I actually needed to buy some towels for home. I’m not sure if it was as* exciting for the kids but I know I was stoked. Plus my oldest that tends to get cold in theaters was able to use hers as a blanket for the movie.

Vidiots is an amazing video store in the Los Angeles area that not only has tons of DVDs that you can rent but also a theater where they have screenings of older films. The theater is gorgeous and they usually play things that have a solid fan base. If you’re looking for the experience of watching a film with everyone in the audience there because they genuinely love the movie, this is a great place to go. There aren’t many places where you can shout out together at the fun parts. It’s a place where like minded fans can meet up and just enjoy the things they like without worrying about how other’s will react.

It was my toddler’s first film in a setting like this and I was a little nervous she would cause issues. Luckily because of the welcoming atmosphere and the sheer amount of other kids, I felt at ease with her making her commentary on the movie. Plus the film was a great teaching opportunity for my oldest because it showed how horses were captured, broken and branded and how the U.S. came to take over Native American land. I didn’t know what the film was about before seeing it so that was a nice bonus.

One thing I want to mention in addition to the amazing atmosphere at Vidiots is that it’s women owned. It’s something that you don’t generally think about but when I used the restroom there I could tell immediately that they cared about their patrons comfort. There was a cart filled with hand sanitizer, tampons and pads and I thought that was a really kind gesture.

If you’ve never been I highly suggest checking them out. They not only do screenings but also have events like painting, drinking and hanging out with cats. If you want to go back in time to when you could just pop in and browse movies, rent a couple of DVDs and have a night in, this place is a must visit.
