Noah Hawley’s “Alien” Series Continues Filming Despite Strikes

With the ongoing strikes, there are a number of productions that have been shut down until further notice. But apparently FX has found a bit of a loophole for Noah Hawley‘s “Alien“ series. Cameras are reportedly rolling in Thailand on the series from the “Fargo,” “Legion” creator.

As you may know, SAG-AFTRA members are currently on strike, meaning no one who is currently a union member (or seeking to join the union) may work for a struck company or project. There are some exceptions, for some video games and animation, commercials, and various other projects.

That said, members of Equity- UK version of SAG-AFTRA- are not effected by the strike. To that end, actors Alex Lawther (“The End of the F*cking World“) , Samuel Blenkin (“Black Mirror“), Essie Davis (“The Babadook,” “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries)”, and Adarsh Gourav (“The White Tiger“) are able to continue work on the series. Which they’re doing, right now.

Equity actors can be sued for walking off set or refusing to work due to contacts. So they have the choice between working or potentially losing their career to legal expenses. And as for the American cast members, they’re not currently shooting. Only Sydney Chandler has been confirmed. So FX would appear to be filming what they can with the actors they can. Until such a time as the SAG-AFTRA members return.

Another FX series, Ryan Murphy‘s “American Horror Story,” is reportedly continuing production with union members despite both strikes.

A source close to the production claims all “Alien” scripts were complete well before the WGA called their strike. This FX show is different than Fede Álvarez‘s upcoming “Alien: Romulus” film, which wrapped production in July.
