Forever Home Needed for Friendly Pig Professor Truffles

There is nothing more charming to us than a friendly pig. Seeing videos of pot-bellies just living their lives and loving it is very cute. Even “teacup” pigs growing into massive, couch-filling beasts — and loved regardless — makes our hearts so warm. Which is why we’re hoping that pot bellied pig named Professor Truffles, currently staying at the Peninsula Humane Society, can find his forever home.

Unfortunately, Professor Truffles was given to the animal shelter after his owners moved. Unable to take him with them, they gave up their beloved 9-year-old pig. According to the shelter, Professor Truffles is incredibly friendly. And they hope a loving family can take him in so that he might continue a life of affection and care. Apparently, those willing to accommodate will have the adoption fee waived!

A Lot of Love In a Piggy Package

“We are committed to finding him a new loving home with experienced pig owners where he will be kept as a pet, not a source of food,” PHS/SPCA spokesperson Buffy Martin Tarbox said. “His name is an homage to the famous truffle hunting pigs, but Professor Truffles is more interested in noshing on carrots and apples than in seeking out the pricey fungi.”

The one thing Prof. Truffles is going to need for his forever home is an exercise routine. Apparently, the big man is a bit overweight. So he’ll need a family that can help him trim down. On average, pigs have a lifespan of 12 to 18 years. They love fresh fruit and alfalfa. And if any online videos have told us anything, pigs are huge fans of tummy rubs.

If anyone in the San Mateo area has room and the means of taking in a portly sweetheart, you can contact them at (650) 340-7022. We’re rooting for you, Professor Truffles!
