While “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” hasn’t even opened in theaters yet, Paramount and Nickelodeon clearly have faith in its success. A sequel is already in the works, as well as a series intended to bridge both films. It’ll be a two-season series for Paramount+ titled “Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

These projects are part of a larger initiative by Paramount and Nickelodeon Chief Brian Robbins to revive the IP. Since it has basically laid dormant since the 2016 live-action film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.”

“Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ universe and bringing new adventures to families and fans,” Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount and Nickelodeon’s Animation, said.

The sequel to “Mutant Mayhem” will have Jeff Rowe returning to direct, and Point Grey Pictures producing. Chris Yost (“The Mandalorian”) and Alan Wan (“Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) will be executive producers and showrunners. Lukas Williams will oversee both the series and sequel for Point Grey.

“In the nearly 40 years since ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow,” Robbins said. “We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.”

“Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” will be 2D animation. It will take place between the events of “Mutant Mayhem” and it’s sequel. The Turtle brothers will be faced with the challenge of splitting up for the first time. Dealing with new threats and teaming up with old allies, they will discover who they really are when they don’t have their brothers by their sides.

Performers Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon will reprise their roles as the four brothers.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” opens in theaters on August 2nd. You can check out the trailer below:
