Local Food Bank Offering Free Groceries to Hollywood Strikers

As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue, a food bank in Arlington Heights is offering free groceries to union members. The WGA strike began in May, with SAG-AFTRA joining the picket lines last week. One SAG-AFTRA member, Kristina Wong, started to worry about how her fellow union members would be able to keep food on their tables.

Wong reached out to Glen Curado, founder and CEO of World Harvest. Unlike most food banks, the LA based food bank allows people to get a cart full of groceries for a $55 donation. Wong is a regular at World Harvest, and spoke with Curado about possible getting small baskets of food for fellow union members. Curado instead chose to offer carts full of $300-$400 worth of groceries to strikers.

WGA and SAG-AFTRA union members only need to show their union cards to get the groceries. World Harvest is gifting courtesy carts containing grocery filled staples like fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat. World Harvest is located on Venice Boulevard in Arlington Heights and is open Monday through Saturday.

While these strikes continue, it warms the heart that this food bank is doing what they can to support union members who may be uncertain how to keep food on the table. World Harvest is truly acting as a godsend by offering free groceries to union members in this tough time. It shows how strongly the community is standing with the two guilds throughout these strikes.

We will continue updating as more news about the strikes is released. You can make a donation to World Harvest via their website here.
