In addition to “The Conjuring” series that’s in development, we’ll also be getting a new film, “The Conjuring: Last Rites.” This will be the 4th addition to “The Conjuring” series, but the 10th entry into the overall universe.

The Conjuring universe started back in 2013 with James Wan‘s “The Conjuring.” Which spawned “The Conjuring 2” in 2016 and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do” in 2021. Those three films follow characters based on real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). The couple travels around documenting and attempting to aid people suffering at the hands of the supernatural.
Logically, “Last Rites” would continue their story but there is no confirmation on a plot, yet. Let alone if Wilson or Farmiga will return. Also given the name, rumors are swirling that this will be the last installment for this part of the franchise. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it will end the overall franchise.

Since the success of “The Conjuring” led to the “Annabelle” trilogy which revolves around a haunted doll. While the Warrens did find the doll, and in real life she is locked up in their museum. The series has little to do with them and just takes place in the same universe. Then there is 2019’s “The Curse of La Llorona,” which is based on Spanish folklore. As well as “The Nun,” and its upcoming sequel, which is due in November, about a demon nun.
So, even if the Warrens’ direct storyline ends with this film. There are still plenty of places for the franchise to go. In Hollywood, things that turn a profit seldom go away, and that goes double for the horror genre.
“Last Rites” is written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also penned “The Conjuring 2” and “The Devil Made Me Do.” But no cast or director is confirmed at this time. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this project and the new series as they become available.
