James Gunn Not Against Russo Brothers Directing DC Studios Film

With James Gunn successfully jumping between Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise and Warner Bros. Pictures “Suicide Squad,” the upcoming DC Studios “Superman: Legacy,” and co-running the company with Peter Safran. The rumor mill is churning with fan theories about who may be next to bounce between the two comic juggernauts. Currently, The Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony) are considered the top contenders. Considering, they haven’t done a project for Marvel Studios since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

The Russos have also expressed an interest in working with DC. When a fan asked Gun if he would be opposed to them directing something for him, Gunn gave a clear, response. He has also expressed a interest in doing crossovers between the two companies sometime in the future. So it does seem like he is trying to lessen the Marvel vs DC feuding we’ve seen among some fans.

    No I love those guys.

“Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer,” Joe Russo said. “We love him to death. We love the direction he’s going to take that world in. You know he’s gonna be inventive with it. And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three —  were Spider-Man. X-Men, and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer.”

“Here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood, “ Anthony Russo said. “But obviously, it’s been well explored.”

Robert Pattinson will continue to play the Dark Knight in “The Batman – Part II.” But that doesn’t mean, especially with “The Flash,” we couldn’t have more than one capped crusader running aorund. The DCEU is set up in a way that would allow for another version of Batman that wouldn’t interfere with Pattinson’s version. Look at a project like “The Joker” and its upcoming sequel.  So theoretically the Russos could do Batman, but we’re pretty sure fans would be happy to see them in almost any DC Comics project.
